Reflected Number Systems

چکیده

This paper introduces the class of reflected number systems. Members of this class have the adjacency property, i.e. representations for consecutive numbers differ in only one digit and the magnitude of this difference is one. It shows that every number system based on a positional weighting scheme has a reflected analogue. It presents procedures to convert a number system to its reflected analogue and vice versa. A conventional number system and its reflected analogue share some properties. Hence the conversion procedure can be used to design reflected number systems that are likely to have desired properties. This paper presents two examples.

Reliable location-allocation model for congested systems under disruptions using accelerated Benders decomposition

This paper aims to propose a reliable location-allocation model where facilities are subject to the risk of disruptions. Since service facilities are expected to satisfy random and heavy demands, we model the congested situations in the system within a queuing framework which handles two sources of uncertainty associated with demand and service. To insure the service quality, a minimum limit re...

The Paradigm Debate in Information Systems Research

The current debate over the ‘identity crisis' in the field of information systems has led to increasing calls from a number of researchers for the development of a common ‘intellectual core’ and common set of related methodologies. Currently the consensus seems to be that researchers in the field of information systems typically adhere to one or another broad schools of thought. There is debate...

Detecting Reflected Light from Close-In Extrasolar Giant Planets with the Kepler Photometer

NASA’s Kepler Mission promises to detect transiting Earth-sized planets in the habitable zones of solar-like stars. In addition, it will be poised to detect the reflected light component from close-in extrasolar giant planets (CEGPs) similar to 51 Peg b. Here we use the DIARAD/SOHO time series along with models for the reflected light signatures of CEGPs to evaluate Kepler’s ability to detect s...

خواص فازی یک شبه بلور دو دوره‌ای متشکل از مواد تک منفی

In this paper, the phase properties of waves reflected from one-dimensional double-periodic quasi-crystals consisting of single-negative materials are investigated using transfer matrix method. It is observed that, by increasing the double-periodic generation number, a large omnidirectional band gap is created in the single-nagative frequency range. We limit our studies to the frequency range o...

Reflected and transmitted waves from fault zones

Waves reflected from and transmitted across fault zones can be used to extract information on those zones. Fault zones, characterized as either a low-velocity zone or fracture systems, modify the phase of the waveform and make the seismic response frequency dependent. In this paper we develop an extrapolation scheme for simulating fractures described as linear slip boundaries. Two 9 × 9 linear ...
